Citizenship
Part
of the holistic training on the course involves the students taking part in
a charity fundraising event. As well as increasing their sense of community
awareness, it also plays an important part in making the students aware of
those less fortunate than themselves.
This again is part of preparing them for a military career, given that peacekeeping
and disaster relief are important roles of the modern armed forces.
Good causes supported by the College in the past include:
Cancer
Research UK Cymru
Army Benevolent Fund
Ty Hafan Childrens Hospice
Greenfields Special Needs School, Merthyr Tydfil.
For
the last three courses, the students have taken part in a 24 hour continuous
log-run at Cwmbran Stadium. Teams of 8 carried the log around the track non-stop
from 12 noon on a Friday, through the night, to 12 noon on the Saturday.
This
year the College was recognised for its charity work and given a ‘Flame
of Hope’ award by Cancer Research UK. The College has raised over £30,000
since its inception and remains committed to supporting deserving causes.
